Support for Vulnerable CustomersThe Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) defines a vulnerable customer as “someone who, due to their personal circumstances, is especially susceptible to detriment – particularly when a firm is not acting with appropriate levels of care.”
That means we can all become vulnerable, in different situations and at different points in our lives. Characteristics of vulnerability could be poor health, life events, financial or emotional shocks, literacy or numeracy difficulties.
We encourage all customers to tell us how we can best support and communicate with them regardless of whether they are vulnerable. For example you might prefer us to always write to you by post or email; only deal with you over the telephone; or ask us to deal with someone else who can act on your behalf.
